First visit to Koishikawa Korakuen Garden

·

This beautiful garden is walking distance from where we are staying in Tokyo. These photos are from the first time I visited, on a slightly raining day in September.

Ancient tree over water lilies

I had only seen Japanese gardens in photos before, and being in one in person was an almost overwhelmingly wonderful experience. At first I tried to photograph areas where there were no people, thinking that would capture the beauty. But I quickly saw that the photos with people (who were sharing the garden experience) were just as interesting, and sometimes more so. I’ll be sharing lots of garden photos as I now have an annual passport which grants access to nine of the gardens in Tokyo.

An intricate root system
A small grove of trees
Many families enjoyed the garden.
The pathways often cross over or through water. This stream had several large fish and a family of ducks.
This egret stayed on the rock for hours, as if knowing they were being photographed by everyone.
Lotus leaves
Simple beauty
This place is just gorgeous!

I have many more garden photos to share (of this and three other gardens so far). Please visit again!
